David Plese blows away the field at the Egg Hunt Sprint Triathlon in Florida

April 3, 2010

Had it been an actual egg hunt, David Plese would have left little for the rest of the 418 competitors to find Saturday at C.B. Smith Park.

But he may have cracked some eggs when he took a nasty spill on a slippery bridge. The bloody scrape below his right knee was the only blemish in a runaway victory for Plese in Saturday's Egg Hunt Triathlon, which opened the Publix Family Fitness Weekend triathlon and duathlon series.

Plese, 27, of Slovenia, finished almost four minutes ahead of runner-up Chad Wilkinson of West Palm Beach, blazing the sprint marathon course in 51:38 in ideal conditions.

"It was perfect from the start to the finish, except for the fall," said Plese, who has been staying with his brother in Hialeah this winter while training for the European summer circuit. The 2009 Slovenian national champion has his sights on the 2012 Olympics and believes training in South Florida can help him reach his goal.
