Longboard surfer and winner of the "Surf Girls" reality series on MTV, Mary Osborne was recently announced as one of the sponsored athletes of Oxygen4Energy. Mary, who doubles as a model with her Southern Californian style of good looks, doesn’t let beauty get in the way of her career in women’s longboard surfing. Osborne has won both international and national longboarding events. She was also ranked 5th place among the world’s female longboarders in 2006.
Mary is psyched to be an Oxygen4Energy sponsored athlete, as she is with her other sponsorships including Patagonia, Go211.com, Bettybelts and Robert August Surfboards. Mary uses oxygen from Oxygen4Energy in her workouts. She claims the oxygen just makes her feel good and rejuvenated, and gives her energy on demand when she needs it most.
Mary Osborne began surfing and picked up her fist board at the age of 14. She has 3 older brothers and says she got into the sport just because she wanted to be better than the boys. She is aware of the fact that her good looks have played a role in her surfing career and has absolutely no problem with that. She first attracted attention with the help of former pro surfer David Pu'u. Pu'u was pursuing a new career as a photographer and along with Mary created an amazing portfolio collection. Mary Osborne's star really began to rise after she became the first woman to get the cover of The Surfer's Path, a popular European surf magazine, with a photo that David Pu'u shot and submitted.
Despite being one of the world's best female longboarders, it was Mary’s time on the MTV reality show Surf Girls that really got her noticed. She won the award for "Best Longboarder" on the show and was nominated for the best female athlete by Teen Choice awards.
On top of winning several surfing events and appearing in numerous magazines, Mary co-authored the book, "Sister Surfer: A Woman's Guide to Surfing with Bliss and Courage" with Kia Afcari. Her hope with the book is to share her surfing experiences and encourage other girls to take up the sport and follow their dreams.
