BMX News - Tom Haugen Question & Answer Session - Jan 2009
What are your goals for the 2009 Season? My goals are the same as they have been since day-one for me... to ride to my potential. Whether I'm at an event, shooting footage for someone, or just riding at my local skatepark, my goal is always just to ride to my full ability.
Have you made any training changes recently that may help improve your riding this year? I started using oxygen4energy's canned oxygen to aide me in my riding. 10-15 breaths before I ride, a couple hours in i'll take another 5-10 breaths and when i'm done riding for the day, another 10 or so breaths to help with recovery time. It's given me more stamina, energy and clarity so I can ride to full potential!
What motivates you to keep training so hard? Personal satisfaction. If I don't ride hard and often, I lose the ability to do things I've worked years to learn how to do. Ultimately, riding hard means I am able to end the day feeling as if I really pushed myself and my limits.
What events are you most excited about? Anything LG or the ASA does is a lot of fun... a much more laidback feel compared to a world class competition
Do you have any new tricks to unveil this season? New tricks at this point involve going to woodward camp to ride the foam/resi ramps. If I make it up there this winter some new tricks may arise...
What is your favorite half-pipe trick? Alley-oops
What is your favorite park trick? 180 whips
What made you decide to become a Sponsored Athlete with Oxygen4Energy.com? It's a great, healthy alternative to energy drinks (i.e. caffeine and sugar) and a completely natural product. I am very conscious of what I put into my body (been a vegetarian for 17 years now) and this is something I can feel good about using.
Do you feel that the oxygen from Oxygen4Energy.com will help you perform better in competitions? The only thing that will make you ride better in competitions is riding your bike a lot. However, the canned oxygen from oxygen4energy can and will certainly give me the energy and stamina to make it through my contest runs without feeling as if I may pass out from exhaustion!
Any tips for young, upcoming riders? Wear pads. Maybe it doesn't look cool, but when you get older you'll really be glad you did!
