Two Oxygen4Energy Athletes Win Medals at the 2011 Track and Field World Championships

Brittney Reese:

Congratulations to World Outdoor Champion and Oxygen4Energy Athlete Brittney Reese for defending her World Long Jump title at the 2011 Track and Field World Championships in Daegu, South Korea. Brittney, who now holds 3 World Titles, as well as 4 US Outdoor National Titles from each of the previous four years, bested Russia’s Olga Kucherenko (Silver Medal) and Latvia’s Ineta Radevica (Bronze Medal) to win her event. Brittney was the only American woman in the any of the field events to win Gold at the 2011 World Championships, and her 1st place finish helped the US edge Russia in the final overall Gold Medal count.

2011 has been an especially successful year for Brittney, who, just days after her Gold Medal win at Daegu, went on to successfully defend her Diamond League title in Zurich. 2011 has also seen Brittney make significant improvements to her personal best in the long jump event, where she places within the top 25 All-Time performances.

As much success as she has achieved in 2011, Brittney continues to pursue even greater goals, including Olympic glory. Brittney says of her recent accomplishments and plans for the coming years, “To me, this season was just the tip of the iceberg. My coach and agent always knew that there were some big jumps in me. I just had to execute them on meet days. In practice we can see that I am well in the 24-foot range and that is my goal, along with winning the Olympic Games. In 2012 I am going to train hard to achieve those goals, which include breaking the American record. My idol Jackie Joyner-Kersee and I have spoken, and I am excited that she supports my career and believes I can achieve my goals. It is important that I bring more attention to the women's long jump event, just as Joyner-Kersee did during her career.”

About her use of oxygen during training, Brittney reports, “Oxygen has helped tremendously with my training and with allowing me to be more competitive. It helps me to be more explosive during meets and practice, as well as allowing me to get more reps in during weight practice.”

Danielle Carruthers:

In what is becoming a very successful year for Oxygen4Energy Track and Field athletes, Pro Hurdler and O4E Athlete Danielle Carruthers won Silver in the 100M hurdles at the 2011 World Track and Field Championships. With this race, in which she set a new personal best, Danielle ran ahead of the reigning Olympic champion, American Dawn Harper, and behind Australia’s Sally Pearson (who set a championship record and also ran a personal best). Though Danielle finished second in the 100M hurdles to Pearson at this year’s World Championships, in the following weeks at the Diamond League Competition in Switzerland, Danielle bested Pearson, earning a total of 19 points to Pearson’s 12 points.

Immediately following her Silver Medal-winning race in Daegu, Danielle said, “I’m feeling great, and this has been a very traumatic year. I have trained so hard with my coach for three years… for me to come out here today and P.R. is just surreal.”
